Ask it a little differently
A promotion depends on budgets, managers, and timing you can't see from the inside, so asking whether it will happen leaves the cards guessing. Asking about your position and your next move gives them something to describe.
- "How is my work being seen right now?"
- "What strength am I underusing?"
- "What would make me feel recognized, with or without a new title?"
An example reading
Three cards: where I stand, what's in the way, what I can do. Someone draws the Three of Pentacles, the Seven of Pentacles, and the Six of Wands.
Where they stand is solid: skilled work done well with others. What's in the way is impatience. The Seven of Pentacles shows someone looking at a slow harvest and wondering if it's worth it. What can be done is to make the results visible. The Six of Wands is about recognition, and recognition often needs someone to point at the work.
Read together: the work is good, but it may be quietly good. The reading suggests speaking up about results.
Keep in mind
A reading can't tell you what a manager will decide. It can help you notice how you're showing up and what you want from the next step. If you're weighing a bigger move instead, the four suits guide explains why Pentacles and Wands appear so often in work questions.
After the reading
Pick one concrete action from the reading and schedule it this week: a check-in with your manager, a short summary of a recent result, or a question about what the next level actually requires. Small, visible steps tend to matter more than waiting. Prompts for reflection:
- What result from the last three months am I proudest of?
- Who knows about it, and who doesn't yet?
- What would I want from a promotion besides the title?
